Terrarium: Resilience in a Jar
A calming, hands-on workshop where teams build a living micro-ecosystem and a shared language for balance, boundaries, and sustainable performance.
Ideal for: Team days, strategy days, wellbeing weeks, onboarding cohorts, leadership development
Length: 90 minutes (option to shorten to 60)
Group size: 6–20 (enquire for larger teams)
What your team will do
- Build a terrarium - create a living ecosystem with a glass vessel, pebbles (foundation), charcoal (protection), soil (nourishment), plants (growth), and moss or stones (calm).
- Learn the metaphor - explore how each layer mirrors sustainable wellbeing and how caring for balance supports resilience and performance.
- Practice a micro-ritual for calm - a simple breath practice (in for 4, out for 6) to use anytime stress rises, plus a take-home reflection card to encourage mindful check-ins after the session.
You’ll leave with a beautiful terrarium (or travel-friendly version: see FAQs) and a shared language to “check your layers” when things feel off balance.
Why it works
• Systems thinking made tangible - teams see how each layer (foundation, protection, nourishment, growth, and calm) supports sustainable performance, just like a balanced ecosystem.
• Mindful micro-breaks that downshift stress in minutes - the act of building and breathing (in for 4, out for 6) becomes an accessible reset teams can repeat anytime.
• Shared language for leaders and teams - phrases like “check your foundations,” “create protection before pressure,” or “add light where growth feels slow” become simple, memorable cues for healthy conversations.
• Built-in follow-through - the care ritual and optional 21-Day Challenge help participants translate reflection into ongoing habits of balance and calm.

FAQs
Can interstate attendees take live plants on a plane?
Often not. Two options:
1. Travel-friendly kit (faux plants + how-to guide) to build in-session and recreate at home, or
2. Gift-and-leave: build a real terrarium and gift it to the host office (I provide a tag + care note).
Can you run this in a conference room with carpet?
Yes — everything is contained. I protect tables, manage waste, and leave the room tidy.
What if some people don’t want to handle soil?
I provide gloves and a low-mess station. The metaphor still lands even with light touch.
Is it accessible?
I set comfortable heights, offer seated participation, and can pre-portion materials. Tell me any needs.
Can you shorten it to 60 minutes?
Yes. I adjust pace and reduce discussion prompts while keeping the core build and metaphor.
How long will terrariums last?
Months to years with basic care (I teach this). Optional Plant Insurance covers early replacement.
